A new phase...

Okay, I know that the picture below might not look like much to anyone else...

But it's actually Olivia's first attempt at writing her own name! She just started doing it tonight and I think she's done a pretty amazing job for someone who's almost 2 and a half. The O and l are clear, the i and v not so much... the rest is part of a circle that she drew over it.

The next picture is her second go and it was a bit better, but she drew over it so it's not too clear.

You can see the O and l clearly again, but this time she's tried for the second i as well (after i and v).

Yes, I'm excited!!

"If you can't feed 1,000 people, then feed one." - Mother Teresa

I went to a fabulous product launch last night for Baby Teresa. It's a new company that sells baby onesies (all-in-one suits), but with a twist. For every onesie sold, another one is donated to a baby in need. The idea is based on the quote by Mother Teresa - "If you can't feed 1,000 people, then feed one."

I think it's a great idea, and the outfits are so cute!

The first donation of outfits was made last night to a benevolent society in Launceston that helps single mums. And Baby Teresa donated over 100 outfits. But the donations won't always be local - the company plans to donate the outfits to babies in need all over the world!

So if, like me, you think this is a fantastic venture, check out the website at http://www.baby-teresa.com/ - it's a Tasmanian company, and you can purchase postage free online. Or if you don't have anyone to buy for at the moment, pass on the website and let's get behind a great Aussie idea!

When 2 Year Olds Have Laptops...

It's a scary reality that kids in kindergarten are assessed on their ability to use computers. I say scary because I can imagine Olivia teaching me how to create Excel spreadsheets before she hits school. And I thought I was vaguely computer literate!

So when Dad came to stay recently, he got Olivia back playing games on the computer - Bananas in Pyjamas is a big favourite. It was amazing to see her use the mouse without needing to look at her hand. It makes me feel so very old...

Here she is creating a pizza on the computer:

What's even scarier is that she'll look back at these childhood photos and laugh, saying something like "Remember what it was like when we actually had to use a mouse?!".

Did I mention that it makes me feel old??

Olivia Meets Olivia!

Around the time that Olivia was born, there was another Olivia becoming well known - Olivia the pig, a children's book character created by Ian Falconer. Of course, we ended up getting Olivia books and now there's a children's TV show based on the books. Our Oliva loves all of it - everything about Olivia the pig just draws her right in.

So when I discovered that Olivia the pig was going to be visiting Dymocks in Hobart for a kid's event, I knew someone who'd be pretty excited about going along...

Olly was up dancing with all the other kids and was really excited about seeing Olivia, so when I asked her if she'd like to give Olivia a cuddle she replied excitedly: "Okay, I do". It took a little convincing to get her to actually cuddle Olivia, but when you look at the size difference between them, Olivia the pig must have seemed enormous to Olly!

She finally got to cuddle Olivia and was very put out that she couldn't just keep cuddling her!

So we got Olly her very own Olivia, and as you can see, she is very well loved. :-)
