Just Add Ink Challenge #3 - A Sketch Challenge

It's challenge time again!  This week at Just Add Ink, it's a sketch challenge:

And boy oh boy, did I find this one hard!  I just couldn't get anything to work for this sketch and ended up feeling very cranky and useless!  Does that ever happen to you?  Well, in the end I managed to complete 2 cards with this sketch, so it's not all bad!

This is the second card I completed, and I have to admit I did it because I really wanted to use the Funky Forest wheel on the bottom!  It's such an adorable wheel and I think it looks fantastic clear embossed.

Materials:
Stamp Set - Trendy Trees, Funky Forest wheel
Cardstock - Chocolate Chip, Kraft, So Saffron, Mellow Moss
Inks - Versamark, Chocolate Chip, Mellow Moss, So Saffron
Accessories - Clear embossing powder, heat tool, Stamp-a-ma-jig, hole punch

And this is the first card I completed.  For such a feminine card, there was an awful lot of swearing over it!  I used my markers in Blush Blossom, Pretty in Pink and Certainly Celery to colour the Upsy Daisy design and I'm really pleased with how the colours turned out.

It wasn't until a while later that I thought that I should have clear embossed it too... but that's what my trusty stamp-a-ma-jig is for!  I lined it up and applied Versamark on top of the image and then clear embossed it.  I'm really happy with the result.  Sometimes when I've used Versamark before applying the colour, the colour hasn't been vibrant enough.  But this way works perfectly.

The ribbon is Whisper White dyed with Blush Blossom to match.

Materials:
Stamp Set - Upsy Daisy, Short and Sweet
Cardstock - Blush Blossom, Whisper White
Inks - Versamark, markers - Blush Blossom, Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery
Accessories - Clear embossing powder, heat tool,Whisper White ribbon, Dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig

***edited to add***

Wow - I've received so many wonderful comments!  Thankyou!  I'm adding this to answer Linda's question in my comments (sorry Linda, I couldn't find a way to contact you directly).

I used SU! markers to colour the image in the Whisper White circle.  I started with Certainly Celery, then I used Pretty in Pink, and then Blush Blossom.  The reason I did it in that order was because I wanted to roughly blend the two pinks, but with a lighter focus (Blush Blossom).  I had no idea if it would actually work!  It's also worth noting that I wasn't very particular with my colouring either - I didn't want a uniform look.

The ribbon was dyed using the Blush Blossom marker (thanks to Genelle for the tip!).  I figured out how much ribbon I'd need, then held the ribbon in one hand, (almost like when you're getting ready to cut a piece of ribbon), and the marker in the other hand.  I found that the easiest way to do it with the grosgrain ribbon was to, bit by bit, run the ribbon over the brush tip of the marker and let the ink soak in before moving on to the next bit - it's quite quick.  Holding the ribbon down and actually colouring it was another way I tried, but it just got more ink on my scrap paper that could have been on the ribbon.  After I coloured the ribbon, I used some paper towel to very lightly wipe of any excess.  It does need to sit for a little while before you attach it to your card, because there'll be a tiny bit more that will seep out onto your card - that can be an effective look too!

I love getting messages, so please leave me one!  :-)

Did you use your markers to color the center piece of the pink card, and stamped in .... blush or pretty in pink on the card itself?
Also, did you use your marker on the ribbon to change it from ww ribbon to blush blossom, or did u use blush blossom ribbon. Thanks... looking forward to following your blog!
