An Idea for Left Over Rubber...

If you're like me, you look at the left over rubber after you've mounted a stamp set and think: "Hmmm, I wonder if I can use that for anything?"  And then you say aloud to yourself, "Danielle, you have enough stuff.  Throw the rubber away!"  Okay, well maybe you're not to the talking to yourself stage yet...

But, there is something you can do with the left over rubber - you can make your own stamps!  You may have heard of this before, but I thought I'd share the stamp that I made from left over pieces.  All you need to do this is:
  • Left over rubber from your stamp sets (including the foam and adhesive back preferably).
  • A block of some sort to attach your stamp to.
  • Some sharp scissors - I love my Stampin' Up! Craft and Rubber scissors, but I found the best scissors to use were... (look away now, dressmakers...) sewing scissors - the reason they were better is because when you're trimming your rubber for your unique stamp, you're actually cutting the design level, not just trimming around the design like when you're mounting stamps.
  • Your design for your stamp.

Some of you may know that I make gift boxes for Funky Homes, a cute homewares store in Liverpool Street, Hobart.  The lovely owner, Helena, asked me if I could incorporate their logo into the design somehow.  She gave me some logo stickers to play with and I automatically thought about making a stamp from it.

And here it is:

All I did was to put a logo sticker directly on to the rubber and cut around the sticker.  The first time I used my trusty Craft and Rubber scissors, but they just didn't cut the way I wanted them to.  I'm sure it would have been fine if I'd perservered with it, but I didn't have enough scrap rubber!

And here's the final product - the new gift boxes, complete with embossed logo.  I'm pretty impressed with them, if I do say so myself!

Leave me a message - I'd love to know what you think!

  1. Funny Danielle, I thought about this too whenever I have been mounting stamps. Glad to know I am not the only one who wants to keep everything!!!!

  2. You clever thing, you! I laughed out loud at what you wrote on saving the bits of rubber; guilty of that, too. This is really cute, Danielle; the store owners should be thrilled.

  3. I'm a new SU Demo and I have already been putting the rubber aside to use for a craft project - mind you I am culling hoarded Craft stuff at the same time - Ok well trying.
